Lakes Grammar – An Anglican School is a co-educational K to 12 school operated by the Newcastle Anglican Schools Corporation. Lakes Grammar opened in 2004 with 150 students and has become a well-established school with a good reputation in the community. The school’s vision is: ‘With compassionate hearts and enquiring minds, we strive to learn well, live wisely, serve others and honour God’. Its motto is: ‘With heart, soul, mind and strength’. The vision and motto reflect the Christian foundation of the school, the focus on learning for a purpose and our responsibilities to others. Lakes Grammar has a pleasant campus and new facilities. All classrooms are air conditioned.
The school has a comprehensive approach to curriculum and strives to provide excellent learning experiences for students in all Key Learning Areas. Life-long learning habits are developed through “Building Learning Power”. This learning framework helps students to develop a range of learning capacities that enable them to be more effective learners. The professional learning program for teachers focuses on improving student learning outcomes. HSC courses are offered to the highest levels and Vocational Education courses can be accessed through TAFE and the Lakes Trade Training Centre, of which we are a member. There is a Year 5/6 Opportunity Class and in the Senior School a program called “Cognito” which provides a wide range of opportunities for students to explore areas of interest more deeply. Year 12 graduates have entered a very wide range of university degree courses, trades and traineeships.
Students with additional learning needs are catered for by our Learning Support teams and Gifted students by our Gifted Education facilitators.
Lakes Grammar has a reputation for high quality care of its students which results from our strong student wellbeing framework. This includes two psychologists and two chaplains who provide spiritual, emotional and mental health support to the school community. The Junior School runs a Virtues Program that integrates virtues into everyday learning and play. A Positive Behaviour for Learning framework guides behaviour management. Respect, Responsibility and Care are the three pillars of this framework. Students from Kindergarten to Year 10 undertake Christian Studies and attend Chapel each week.
A wide variety of sports is also available. The school has extra-curricular clubs for snowsports, athletics and netball; other extra- and co-curricular activities are offered from time-to-time, such as choirs, chamber orchestra, jazz band, debating, chess, dance, drama and soccer. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is offered to students from Year 9. There are awards programs for students in both Junior and Senior Schools. Lakes Grammar has an active Parents and Friends Association that has raised considerable funds to improve the school’s resources. The P& F contributes to the life of the school through such activities as running the canteens, partnering with the school in running the Spring Fair, holding trivia nights and other social activities and providing Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day breakfasts.
The school has run overseas service trips to Mongolia, Vietnam and Burma. In 2016 a tour for choir and art students to New York took place. This is one part of the school’s vision for serving others and encouraging teamwork and leadership in our students. Chinese (Mandarin) is the language learned in the Senior School and this opens the way for interaction with Chinese students and greater cultural understanding of an emerging world power. Lakes Grammar – An Anglican School is a growing and exciting school with strong parental support, pursuing academic excellence and providing high quality pastoral care. The school’s Christian foundations and its links with the Anglican Church add an enriching dimension to the education offered by Lakes Grammar – An Anglican School.

1 Review on “Lakes Grammar - An Anglican School”
Whilst the academic side and teaching is of an OK standard: the curriculum is followed and the required subjects are comprehensively covered by well prepared teachers; our experience at Lakes Grammar was disappointing. We found that the school had a poor sense of community among the families and lacked any pastoral care for the students. We feel strongly that in addition to striving for academic results that student well being and community play an equally important role in the school experience. Finally we found that despite the large number of administration staff employed at the school that there was a lack of communication, at times politeness and an attitude of ‘thats not my job!’
